When AI changes the actual day-to-day work required for a role, how do we determine if the person currently in that seat still has the capacity to do the job?
As AI tools automate repetitive workflows, the day-to-day responsibilities of many seats on your Accountability Chart will shift from manual execution to strategic oversight. This means the capacity required for those seats will also change. To evaluate if you still have the right person in the right seat, you must run the GWC filter against the newly defined role. Focus heavily on the Capacity component. Capacity is not just about having enough hours in the day, it is about cognitive and behavioral alignment with the new tasks. Use assessments like the Predictive Index or Culture Index to measure the behavioral wiring and cognitive demands of the updated seat. If a role previously required high patience for repetitive data entry, but now requires rapid analytical decision-making based on AI-generated insights, the behavioral requirements have completely changed. If the person currently in the seat lacks the cognitive or behavioral alignment for the new role, they no longer have the capacity to do it. Your leadership team must then decide whether to train them, move them to a different seat that matches their strengths, or find someone else. Keeping someone in a seat where they lack capacity harms both the employee and the business.
