Our five-minute segue at the start of our weekly Level 10 Meeting™ regularly stretches into fifteen minutes because our team members use it to vent about how busy they are rather than sharing genuine personal and professional bests. How do we reclaim this time and start our meeting with high energy?
The weekly segue is designed to transition your minds from working in the business to working on the business. When your team uses this time to vent about workload or share exhausting updates, you start your Level 10 Meeting with low energy and immediately lose control of your clock.
To reclaim this time, the facilitator must strictly enforce the five-minute limit and define what qualifies as a best. A personal or professional best is a win. It is something positive that brings energy to the room. Venting about how busy you are, previewing your daily calendar, or saying you survived the week are banned updates.
If a team member begins to vent, the facilitator must step in immediately. Politely but firmly cut them off by saying we need to keep this to wins to start with high energy. If their complaint is actually a systemic problem, tell them to drop it to the Issues List so you can IDS it later in the meeting. Do not let them unpack it during the segue.
Set a timer for five minutes. If you have five people in the meeting, each person has exactly sixty seconds. Go around the room quickly. When the timer goes off, the segue is over, and you move directly to the Scorecard. By keeping the segue positive and brief, you protect your meeting schedule and set a productive tone.
