Our weekly Scorecard is packed with monthly accounting totals and historical output metrics that give us zero ability to predict problems. How do we rebuild our Scorecard with true weekly leading indicators that drive productive IDS conversations?
If your Scorecard reads like an income statement, you are looking in the rearview mirror. Monthly revenue, net margin, and closed deals tell you what happened thirty days ago. By the time those numbers flash red, the operational damage is already done, and you cannot fix it in a weekly Level 10 Meeting.
A functional Scorecard tracks activity you control this week that produces financial outcomes next month.
To reset your Scorecard with forward-looking indicators, follow these steps:
- Trace the pipeline backward. Instead of closed revenue, measure outbound qualified calls, discovery meetings booked, or proposals submitted. If proposals fall off in week two, revenue will drop in week six.
- Track operational velocity. In delivery or operations, track work orders initiated, billable utilization percentages, or milestone sign-offs. These metrics flag capacity bottlenecks weeks before a delivery deadline slips.
- Enforce single-point ownership. Every single number must have one person accountable for hitting the goal. When a metric misses its weekly target, it immediately drops to the Issues List for IDS, allowing the room to solve the behavioral cause before the month-end financials bleed.
A high-performing Scorecard gives an owner a pulse on the company in five seconds. If your metrics do not tell you what next month looks like, throw them out and track inputs instead of outputs.
