Our weekly Level 10 Meeting Scorecard has ballooned to over thirty metrics because every department head wanted their specific data tracked, and now we spend the first fifteen minutes of the meeting lost in a sea of numbers. How do we prune our Scorecard back to a healthy state?
A scorecard with thirty metrics is not a scorecard; it is a spreadsheet of noise. When you track everything, you monitor nothing. Your leadership team Scorecard should only contain five to fifteen high-level, leading indicators that give you a pulse on the overall health of the business. To prune your Scorecard, use your Accountability Chart. Every metric on the leadership Scorecard must have one owner who is accountable for that number. If a metric is too granular or only matters to a specific department, it does not belong on the leadership Scorecard. Push those numbers down to the departmental Level 10 Meetings™. Go through your metrics one by one and ask: 'If this number is off-track, does it threaten our ability to hit our quarterly Rocks or our 1-Year Plan?' If the answer is no, remove it from the leadership view and let the department head track it on their local scorecard. A clean, high-level Scorecard allows you to spot actual issues in under five minutes. This keeps your weekly meeting focused, energetic, and productive, ensuring you spend your valuable time solving major systemic bottlenecks instead of reviewing daily operational details.
