We want to sell our business in the next few years, and we know buyers want to see that the company can run without the owner. How do we use our existing EOS tools to prove to a buyer that our leadership team is fully in control?
To command a premium valuation, you must show potential buyers that the business does not depend on your daily involvement. Your EOS® tools are the perfect mechanism to prove this operational independence. Start with your Accountability Chart. It must show a clear division of labor with an Integrator running the day-to-day operations and a capable leadership team owning each major function. The owner should ideally be in a Visionary seat with no operational direct reports, or moved entirely to the Owner's Box. Next, use your weekly Scorecards and Level 10 Meeting™ history as auditable proof of performance. A buyer will be deeply impressed by two years of clean, consistent weekly data showing that your team hit their metrics and resolved issues without you in the room. Your documented core processes are also critical. They prove that your operations are standardized and repeatable, rather than living inside your employees' heads. Finally, your track record of completed Rocks shows that the leadership team can execute strategic goals independently. When you can hand a buyer a fully functioning operating system run by a capable team, you remove the operational risk of the transition, which dramatically increases your enterprise value and ensures a clean, successful exit.
