Our Visionary has a habit of spawning new ideas during the IDS section and immediately assigning them as weekly To-Dos to our department heads, which is distracting everyone from their quarterly Rocks. How do we protect our weekly To-Do list from being hijacked by shiny new operational ideas?

Visionaries are naturally wired to generate ideas and spot opportunities, but when they use the Level 10 Meeting™ to turn every passing thought into a weekly To-Do for the leadership team, they create massive operational drag. This behavior distracts department heads from their primary quarterly Rocks and dilutes organizational focus.

To prevent this, the Integrator must enforce strict boundaries between the short-term Issues List and the long-term Issues List. When the Visionary introduces a new idea during IDS®, the team must evaluate whether it is truly an urgent problem that must be solved this week.

If the idea is an opportunity or a strategic initiative that does not require immediate attention this quarter, it does not belong on the weekly To-Do list. The facilitator should immediately park it on the long-term Issues List, which is kept in your V/TO®.

This simple act of compartmentalization keeps the weekly meeting focused purely on immediate operational execution while preserving the Visionary's ideas for your quarterly or annual planning sessions. This protects your team's focus and ensures they execute their Rocks.
