During our weekly segue, our team members frequently share personal and professional bests that trigger immediate follow-up questions and debates from other leaders, turning a quick transition into a ten-minute discussion. How do we protect the segue without ruining the personal connection?

The purpose of the segue is to transition your team out of their daily firefighting mode and into the strategic focus of the Level 10 Meeting™. It is a psychological bridge, not a discussion block. When team members start asking questions or debating the details of a personal or professional best, they are violating the transition and eating into your valuable IDS® time. To fix this, establish a strict no follow-up rule during the segue. Each person shares their one personal and one professional best, and the team immediately moves to the next person with no cross-talk, questions, or comments allowed. If someone shares an exciting personal update, congratulations should be offered silently with a nod or saved for after the meeting. If a professional best sounds like a major business announcement that requires discussion, the facilitator must intervene immediately. State clearly that the item sounds like a People Headline or an issue, and instruct the team member to add it to the appropriate section of the agenda later. Keeping the segue fast and focused does not make your team cold or transactional. It shows respect for everyone's time. A high-performing leadership team understands that protecting the ninety-minute pulse requires discipline, and that discipline starts in the very first minute of the meeting.
