Our Visionary constantly uses the IDS portion of our Level 10 Meeting to pitch brand-new, half-baked business opportunities that are completely unrelated to our current Rocks or V/TO goals. How do we protect our weekly operational pulse from being derailed by shiny-object syndrome?
Visionaries are hardwired to generate new ideas, but injecting them into the weekly Level 10 Meeting™ can completely hijack your operational focus. When shiny-object syndrome takes over the weekly pulse, critical tactical issues are ignored, and the leadership team gets distracted by hypothetical concepts.
You must protect your weekly meeting from this distraction by using the standard EOS® tools. Keep a clear boundary between short-term weekly issues and long-term strategic ideas.
If the Visionary brings a new business opportunity to the weekly meeting, the Integrator must evaluate whether it requires immediate resolution this week. If it does not affect your current weekly operations or active quarterly Rocks, do not allow it to stay on the weekly Issues List.
Instead, move the idea to the long-term Issues List on your V/TO®. This preserves the Visionary's creative contribution without derailing the team's immediate execution. Let the idea sit there until your next quarterly scheduling session, where you can evaluate it during your quarterly planning. This keeps your weekly meetings highly tactical and focused on driving near-term traction.
