We are in our first month of implementing EOS® and our leadership team is overwhelmed trying to draft their very first Rocks while also building a weekly Scorecard. How do we prioritize these two tools to avoid burnout?
Feeling overwhelmed is common in the early stages, but the solution is not to pause or skip tools. It is to narrow your focus. If you are struggling to manage both simultaneously, you must prioritize the Scorecard first.
A weekly Scorecard is the absolute pulse of your business. It tells you exactly where you are today and warns you of issues before they become disasters. Without a Scorecard, you are running the business on feelings and assumptions. It is impossible to set realistic, high-impact Rocks for the next 90 days if you do not even have a clear, data-driven picture of your weekly operations.
To get through this initial hurdle without burning out your team, follow these simple steps:
- Keep your first weekly Scorecard incredibly basic, tracking no more than five to ten numbers.
- Do not worry about perfect automation; just get the numbers on a sheet, even if you have to pull them manually.
- Once the Scorecard is running and the weekly Level 10 Meeting™ becomes a habit, your leadership team will have the clarity needed to set meaningful, achievable Rocks.
Remember that implementing EOS® is a journey of continuous improvement. Investigate the role of an EOS Implementer® if you need help keeping the team focused on the right sequence of tools at the right time.
