We are actively preparing for a company sale, but our Level 10 Meeting™ Issues List is constantly clogged with minor, day-to-day operational complaints that crowd out our high-value exit readiness issues. How do we keep our weekly pulse focused on what actually drives enterprise value?
If your Issues List is dominated by minor operational complaints, your team is using the Level 10 Meeting as a dumping ground rather than a strategic tool. To protect your exit preparation, you must implement a strict filter for what qualifies as a leadership-level issue. First, utilize your Accountability Chart to push tactical problems down to the department level. If an issue can be resolved within a single department or between two individual leaders outside of the meeting, it should never appear on the leadership team's list. Second, implement a prioritization rule during IDS. The facilitator must ensure that the top three issues chosen for discussion are directly tied to your quarterly Rocks, your V/TO, or your exit-readiness objectives, such as resolving value gaps or documenting tribal knowledge. Let the minor operational details sit at the bottom of the list. If you run out of time and never get to them, they were not truly critical. By forcing your team to resolve tactical issues in their respective departments, you clear the space needed to focus on the big levers that buyers care about, such as risk reduction, scalability, and clean financial reporting. This discipline keeps your weekly pulse operating at a high level and drives real progress toward a successful exit.
