We have a leader who consistently attempts to re-IDS® solved issues from previous weeks because they did not agree with the team's final decision. How do we stop this back-channel resistance and enforce our commitment to support agreed-upon solutions?
High-performing leadership teams operate on a simple principle: disagree and commit. Once an issue has been fully processed through IDS® and a decision has been reached, every member of the team must fully support that solution, regardless of their personal opinion during the debate.
When a leader tries to reopen a solved issue during a weekly Level 10 Meeting™, the facilitator must immediately step in and hold the line. Do not allow the team to fall back into discussing the merits of the old issue. Simply state that the issue was solved on a specific date and that the decision is final.
If the leader persists, the facilitator should ask if any new, objective data has emerged that completely changes the situation. If no new data exists, the discussion is closed. Reopening issues simply because someone is unhappy with the outcome is a waste of valuable team energy and undermines the entire EOS® process.
The Integrator must address this behavior offline. This is a fundamental core values and Accountability Chart alignment problem. The Integrator should remind the leader that healthy debate is encouraged during the IDS® stage, but once a decision is made, silent resistance or back-channel lobbying is unacceptable.
If a leader cannot align with the team's decisions, they may no longer be a fit for their seat. Enforcing this level of discipline ensures that your Level 10 Meetings™ remain a space for final decisions and rapid execution, rather than endless, circular debates.
