We are entering our second year of running on EOS® and our quarterly sessions are starting to feel like a repetitive chore where we just recycle the same long-term issues. How do we elevate our preparation and focus to make sure these sessions drive actual evolution?
If your quarterly sessions are starting to feel like a repetitive routine where you simply review old business and move the same long-term issues to the next quarter, your leadership team has likely hit a plateau in operational maturity. To break this cycle, you must raise the bar on your session preparation.
Healthy preparation begins weeks before the actual quarterly session. Leadership team members should not show up planning to brainstorm on the spot. Each member must thoroughly review the past quarter's Level 10 Meeting™ issues lists, scorecard trends, and progress on Rocks. They should identify the underlying bottlenecks that are keeping the business from scaling and write down clear, actionable issues to be solved.
During the session, challenge the team to go deeper. If the same issue keeps reappearing, do not tolerate superficial solutions. Use the IDS® process to dig down to the absolute root cause, even if that means addressing uncomfortable personnel issues or structural gaps in your Accountability Chart.
Keep in mind that the consistency of the EOS® quarterly rhythm is meant to bring discipline, not boredom. If the rhythm feels stale, it is usually because the team is avoiding the hardest discussions. Use your quarterly time to look honestly at where you want the business to be in three years, and make sure your current execution matches that trajectory.
