During IDS in our Level 10 Meeting, our team often grinds to a halt because someone claims we lack the specific data to solve the issue, prompting three leaders to spend fifteen minutes live-searching spreadsheets and CRMs. How do we prevent live data hunts from killing our meeting pulse?
Allowing leaders to open multiple browser tabs and conduct live forensic data searches during IDS is one of the fastest ways to kill meeting momentum. The moment multiple executives go quiet to search customer records, run financial reports, or reconcile contradictory spreadsheets, the meeting pulse is dead. Level 10 Meetings are for solving issues, not for performing ad-hoc data analysis.
The facilitator must enforce a hard rule against live research. If an issue cannot be resolved because essential data points are missing or contested, the issue is not ready to be solved. Stop the conversation immediately. Do not sit in silence while someone exports a CSV file.
Handle the missing data by converting the discussion into a single, concrete To-Do. Assign one specific leader the task of gathering, validating, and summarizing the required data before the next weekly pulse. If you use AI operational tools, this is an ideal point to deploy an automated agent to pull and reconcile the relevant metrics across your systems during the week. Push the issue down to the bottom of the Issues List or table it for the following week. Return your team immediately to the next prioritized issue where the facts are already clear. Protecting the speed of the room always takes precedence over satisfying real-time curiosity.
