As we begin implementing the Step by Step Exit model, the sheer volume of operational cleanup and due diligence prep is overwhelming my leadership team. How do we keep them focused and prevent burnout during this high-stress phase?
Preparing a company for an exit while simultaneously running daily operations is a massive undertaking that can easily lead to burnout. To protect your leadership team, you must ruthlessly prioritize and delegate. Start by reviewing your quarterly Rocks. During this intense preparation phase, you must reduce the number of active Rocks per leader. Focus only on the critical operational cleanup tasks that directly impact enterprise value, such as documenting core processes or deploying essential automation. Everything else must be tabled or delegated down. Next, utilize your weekly Level 10 Meeting to monitor team health. Do not let these meetings become venting sessions; instead, use the IDS process to identify bottlenecks and redistribute workloads before leaders redline. If capacity is still an issue, consider bringing in fractional support or using AI tools to automate manual administrative tasks. Your leadership team must understand that this sprint has a clear purpose and a defined end point. By keeping their focus narrow, monitoring their capacity, and ensuring they have the tools to execute, you maintain team cohesion and protect the health of the very people who are building your exit-ready superstructure.
