My leadership team is so overwhelmed by the daily grind that they arrive at our quarterly planning sessions completely exhausted. How do we fix this?

If your team is too exhausted to plan, they cannot think strategically. You are operating in a state of overload, which dilutes the value of your EOS® implementation.

To fix this, you must build white space into your routine. This means creating unscheduled, open time with no assignment. White space is not slacking off; it is a strategic tool to allow your brain to reboot, reflect, and digest information.

Start by introducing the strategic pause. Encourage your leaders to take ten minutes between meetings to step away from their screens and think, rather than immediately jumping to the next email.

Additionally, enforce a pre-quarterly prep day. Do not allow your leaders to work late the night before a full-day quarterly session. Advise them to clear their calendars of operational meetings the day before, giving them time to review their Kolbe profiles, update their Rocks, and process their thoughts.

During the quarterly session itself, insert regular breaks. Do not try to push through eight hours straight.

When your leaders have the mental capacity to participate fully, your planning sessions will become highly productive. You will transition from surviving the day to driving the vision. Protect this white space fiercely, or your strategy will suffer.
