We have been running on EOS® for a year and have achieved decent alignment, but we are starting to feel a sense of complacency settling in across our teams. How do we keep the momentum alive and prevent our EOS® tools from becoming a bureaucratic check-the-box exercise?
Complacency is the silent killer of a successful EOS® implementation. After a year of running on the system, the initial excitement has faded, and the tools can easily begin to feel like bureaucratic chores rather than drivers of growth. To prevent this, you must constantly raise the bar for your team's performance. Start by reviewing your Scorecard. If your team is hitting their numbers every week without effort, your metrics are too easy. Challenge them to set more aggressive leading indicators that force them to stretch. The same applies to your Rocks. If your quarterly Rocks are just your daily job descriptions, you are not actually driving the business forward. Your Rocks should be high-impact, strategic objectives that challenge your team to solve structural issues and build enterprise value. Additionally, evaluate the quality of your Level 10 Meeting™ IDS® sessions. If you are only solving minor tactical issues week after week, your team is playing it safe. Push them to bring the real, uncomfortable issues to the table. As the business owner, your role is to model the discipline and keep the focus on growth. Keep engaging with an EOS Implementer to facilitate your annual sessions, as an outside perspective is critical to challenging your assumptions and preventing complacency. By continuously pushing your team to tackle bigger challenges, you keep the momentum alive and make sure your operating system remains a powerful engine for success.
