We are worried that co-founder friction will derail our quarterly progress. How do we establish an operating charter of trust and strategic alignment that governs how we behave during our sessions?
Co-founder friction is one of the most common reasons leadership teams hit a ceiling. To prevent personal politics from derailing our work, we establish a binding operating charter before we begin our first session day. This charter is based on the Owner's Box framework and acts as an operational handshake agreement between partners. The charter requires a commitment to three core pillars: Trust, Same Page, and Yes to Strategy and Structure. Trust means committing to open, honest, and vulnerable communication in every session. Same Page means resolving partner misalignments privately, ensuring we present a unified front to the rest of the leadership team. Yes to Strategy and Structure means agreeing to submit to the discipline of the EOS® framework and the decisions of the facilitator. During our quarterly sessions, if partner friction arises, I will use the charter to reset the room. We will place the issue on the IDS® list and solve it objectively, focusing on what is best for the business rather than individual egos. This structural boundary protects the leadership team and ensures we maintain execution momentum.
