While our team has stopped oversharing personal details during the segue, they now use their professional good news to pitch new ideas or start collaborating on projects, which kills our momentum before we even touch the Scorecard. How do we transition from the segue to the administrative review without letting collaboration bleed into the first five minutes?

The five minute segue is designed to transition your minds from working in the business to working on the business. When leaders use this time to pitch ideas or coordinate project details, they are bypassing the administrative review and derailing the meeting before it starts.

The facilitator must step in immediately when a leader starts discussing implementation details or project updates during the segue. The facilitator should say, that sounds like a great win, now let us drop any related issues to the list and move on. Do not let the team respond or ask follow up questions about the segue item.

Remind the team that the segue is strictly a personal and professional win. It is a quick share to get everyone present in the room. It is not an invitation to open a discussion or seek feedback. If a professional win sparks a topic that needs team input, the leader who shared it must make a note to add it to the Issues List.

Keep the transition tight. The segue should take no more than five minutes. If you have five people in the room, each person has exactly one minute to share. Once the fifth person finishes, the facilitator must immediately transition by saying, let us look at the Scorecard. This clean break preserves your ninety minute timeline and keeps everyone focused on the structured agenda.
