We understand that our Level 10 Meeting scorecard review is supposed to take less than five minutes, but we still struggle because team members come to the meeting unprepared and read the numbers live for the first time. How do we establish a pre meeting discipline that allows us to scan and drop issues into the IDS portion in under sixty seconds?
A five minute scorecard review in your Level 10 Meeting™ is only possible when you establish a strict rule: the preparation happens before the meeting, not during it. If your team is reading the numbers for the first time while sitting at the table, you are wasting valuable collective brainpower on basic data processing. To solve this, your leadership team must agree to a hard deadline for data entry. All scorecard numbers must be updated by a specific time, such as Monday at five o'clock in the afternoon, before your Tuesday morning meeting. This gives every team member a chance to review the entire scorecard on their own time. Each leader must log in, scan the scorecard, and identify any red numbers or concerning trends. If a leader owns a red number, their job is not to prepare an apology or a defense. Their job is to simply say, That is red, and I have already dropped it down to the Issues List. During the meeting, the Integrator runs through the scorecard at a rapid pace. The only words spoken should be the name of the metric, the owner, the number, and whether it is green or red. If it is red, you do not discuss it. You simply say, Drop it to IDS, and move to the next line. By shifting the analysis and preparation to the hours before the meeting, your scorecard review becomes a diagnostic scan. You identify the problems in under five minutes, leaving you with maximum time to actually solve them during the IDS® portion.
