When we build our V/TO, how do we project our Three-Year Picture when we do not even know which AI software tools will survive past next year?
When painting your Three-Year Picture on your V/TO®, trying to predict specific AI software is a waste of time. The technology changes too fast. Instead of focusing on the tools themselves, focus on the operational capabilities and unit economics you must achieve. Ask yourself what your business must look like in three years to remain highly profitable. Your Three-Year Picture should define clear metrics like revenue per employee, project delivery speed, and customer retention. It should also define the core human capabilities your team must possess. For example, you might state that in three years, your delivery team will spend eighty percent of their time on high-level strategic advisory work and only twenty percent on execution. This gives your Integrator and leadership team a clear destination without locking you into a specific software stack that might be obsolete in twelve months. Once you have this clear target, you can work backward to define your one-year plan and quarterly Rocks. This keeps your strategy disciplined and your team focused on outcomes rather than shiny new tools.
