Two of our leadership team members had a massive falling out over a personal matter outside of work, and now the tension is toxic during our Level 10 Meetings™, with both shooting down each other's ideas. How do we handle personal conflicts that bleed into professional seats?
When personal drama between two leadership team members bleeds into your Level 10 Meetings™, it creates a toxic environment that threatens the execution of your entire business. This cannot be ignored or tolerated.
As the Integrator, you must address this head-on. Schedule a meeting with both individuals. Establish a clear boundary: their personal lives are their own, but their professional behavior must align with your core values and the needs of the business.
Use the Trusted Advisor framework to address the underlying tension. Have them identify where the trust has broken down and focus on rebuilding professional intimacy, even if personal friendship is off the table.
Make it clear that during business hours and meetings, they must remain professional, collaborative, and constructive. They must actively support the company's Rocks and engage in healthy conflict during IDS® without letting personal animosity color their input.
If they can maintain this professional standard, they can keep their seats. If the personal conflict continues to disrupt meetings and divide the team, one or both of them must be removed from the Accountability Chart. The health of the organization must always come first.
