Waiting for perfect data before you start running your business on a weekly Scorecard is a massive mistake. Perfection is the enemy of progress in EOS®, and waiting for your IT team to build flawless automated dashboards will only keep your leadership team operating in a data vacuum for months.

You must start with the data you have today, even if it is imperfect, messy, and manually entered. The discipline of tracking weekly numbers is far more important than the method of collection. Assign ownership of each metric to a specific seat on your Accountability Chart and have them manually pull and enter the data every single week.

Entering numbers manually actually has a major benefit. It forces your leaders to physically touch the data and look at their department's performance. When a leader has to manually calculate their team's weekly sales calls or customer satisfaction scores and type them into the spreadsheet, they develop a much deeper connection to the results than if they simply glanced at an automated dashboard.

As you run on these imperfect numbers, you will naturally identify which metrics are truly the vital five to fifteen that give you a pulse on the business. Once you have proven that a metric is highly valuable and has stayed on your Scorecard for two or three quarters, then you can invest the time and money to automate its collection. Start messy, build the weekly discipline first, and refine your data pipelines over time.
