Our Integrator is supposed to facilitate our weekly Level 10 Meeting, but they remain passive and silent when debates get off track, allowing strong-willed department heads to dominate the agenda. How do we help our Integrator find their voice and assert control over the meeting pulse?
A passive facilitator is a bottleneck to your entire organization. When your Integrator sits in silence while a department head hijacks the discussion, the Level 10 Meeting™ loses its structure, and your problem-solving momentum stalls. The Integrator must own the meeting pulse with absolute authority.
To resolve this, the Integrator must understand that facilitation is not about being polite; it is about protecting the team's time. They need to shift their mindset from a participant to an active referee. They must use the agenda as their shield and the clock as their weapon.
The Integrator must practice active interruption. When a debate begins to circle or drift into a tangent, they must step in immediately. They should use a simple, firm script such as, we are off track, let's drop this to the Issues List, or let's get back to the issue at hand. This is not rude; it is highly respectful of everyone's time.
As the owner, you must support this transition by giving the Integrator explicit permission to interrupt you as well. If you are the one drifting off-topic, the Integrator must shut you down just like anyone else. This publicly cements their authority and shows the entire leadership team that the rules of the meeting apply to everyone, without exception.
