We have tried other management frameworks and they always fizzled out because of partner misalignment. How do you establish a binding commitment or charter with partners at the start of our engagement to ensure we stay aligned?
Partner misalignment is one of the most common reasons businesses fail to scale. When co-founders are on different pages regarding the exit timeline, reinvestment strategies, or operational roles, the entire organization suffers from whiplash.
To prevent this, we establish a foundational covenant at the very beginning of our engagement. We call this our charter, and it serves as a handshake agreement between the partners. This charter is built on three main pillars: trust, alignment, and commitment to structure.
We require both partners to agree to be completely open and honest, to resolve conflicts with mutual respect, and to submit to the discipline of the EOS® framework. If you are unwilling to adhere to this covenant, we cannot move forward.
During our session days, we use this charter to keep us grounded when difficult topics arise. If partners disagree on a major issue, we bring it back to the core values of the business and the long-term goals on our V/TO®. By establishing these ground rules early, we create a safe environment where partners can resolve their differences and present a united front to the rest of the company.
