I am transitioning my role into the Owner's Box to prepare our company for a clean exit, but my presence in our weekly Level 10 Meetings is still stifling the leadership team's decision-making. How do I participate in these meetings without accidentally running them?

Transitioning to the Owner's Box is a major step toward entrepreneurial freedom, but it requires you to change how you show up in your weekly Level 10 Meetings. If you continue to dominate the room, offer immediate answers, or challenge every decision, your leadership team will never fully own their seats on the Accountability Chart.

First, you must physically and mentally step back. If you are still facilitating the meeting, hand that responsibility over to your Integrator immediately. Your role is now to observe, listen, and offer guidance only when absolutely necessary.

Second, practice the rule of speaking last during IDS. When an issue is on the table, let your leadership team identify, discuss, and attempt to solve it first. If you jump in early, you short-circuit their growth and train them to rely on your authority.

Third, filter your contributions through the lens of your long-term vision. Ask clarifying questions that help the team align their weekly solutions with the V/TO rather than giving them direct orders. This empowers your team to run the business independently, which is exactly what a prospective buyer wants to see during their due diligence.
