I am an owner trying to transition to the Owner's Box, and I am attending our Level 10 Meetings™ strictly as an observer, but I find myself constantly jumping in to save the team when they struggle. How do I physically and mentally sit in the room without undermining my Integrator's authority?
As an owner preparing to move into the Owner's Box, your presence in the weekly Level 10 Meeting™ can be a double-edged sword. If you sit in the room and constantly jump in with advice or decisions, you are actively preventing your leadership team from developing the problem-solving muscle they need to run the business without you.
To make this transition successfully, you must establish a strict boundary of silence. You are there to observe, not to facilitate, solve, or validate.
If you see the team struggling during IDS®, you must resist the urge to save them. Let them struggle. Let them make mistakes and experience the consequences. This is how they build competence and confidence.
If you must provide feedback, do it privately with your Integrator after the meeting has concluded. Discuss how the meeting was facilitated and where the team got stuck, allowing the Integrator to address those areas in the next weekly pulse.
Eventually, you should stop attending the weekly meeting altogether. Your goal is to review the weekly Scorecard and meeting ratings from a distance, trusting your leadership team to maintain operational traction while you focus on high-level strategy and your ultimate exit.
