I have successfully transitioned to the Owner's Box, but I still receive the Level 10 Meeting summary and find myself immediately texting my Integrator with critiques on how they solved issues. How do I give constructive operational feedback without constantly pulling myself back into the day-to-day trap?
Texting your Integrator during or immediately after their Level 10 Meeting™ is a fast way to destroy their authority and drag yourself back into the day-to-day operations. This behavior signals that you do not trust your leadership team to run the business without your constant oversight.
To stay in the Owner's Box, you must change how and when you deliver feedback.
First, establish a boundary. Stop looking at the meeting notes the moment they are published. Give your Integrator twenty-four to forty-eight hours to execute the To-Dos and communicate with their team before you review the results.
Second, save your feedback for your scheduled Same Page meeting with your Integrator. This meeting is the correct forum for high-level alignment, not the middle of the weekly operational pulse. Write down your thoughts and bring them to this session.
When you do discuss the meeting, focus on the process rather than the specific tactical decisions. Ask questions like: "Did the team identify the root cause of that issue?" or "Do you feel the solution aligns with our V/TO® goals?"
Third, trust your team to make mistakes. Operational freedom means allowing your Integrator and department heads to solve problems their way, even if it is different from how you would do it. As long as they are hitting their Rocks and maintaining the health of the business, let them run. Your job is to guide, not to micro-manage.
