As a Reformer personality type, I struggle with perfectionism and feel that no one else can execute our core processes to my standards. How do I overcome this need for absolute control during our exit runway so I can successfully hand over the reins?
If you have a Reformer personality type, your natural drive for perfectionism and high standards can easily become a major bottleneck during your exit runway. Your belief that no one can execute processes to your standards will prevent you from successfully handing over the reins. To overcome this micromanagement trap, you must shift your focus from personal perfection to organizational structure. Use your Accountability Chart to clearly define the roles and measurables for every seat on your leadership team. Once the structure is built, evaluate your team members using the GWC framework to ensure they have the capacity to handle their responsibilities. Accept that their methods may differ from yours, but focus on the results tracked on your weekly Scorecard. If the metrics are being met and the quarterly Rocks are being achieved, you must resist the urge to step in and micromanage. Use your weekly Level 10 Meetings to practice letting your team identify, discuss, and solve operational issues without your guidance. By stepping back and trusting your systems, you prove to potential buyers that the business can run flawlessly without your daily oversight, which dramatically increases your enterprise value.
