Our leadership team is filling out their Scorecards and showing up to meetings, but they are doing it with zero enthusiasm and treating it like a bureaucratic exercise. How do we break through this passive resistance to the EOS® tools?
Passive resistance is more dangerous than active opposition because it masks a lack of real buy-in. When your leadership team treats the EOS® tools as a checklist, they are complying with the letter of the law while ignoring its spirit. This usually happens because they do not see how the tools solve their daily frustrations.
To break through this indifference, you must connect the tools directly to their pain points. Stop treating the weekly Level 10 Meeting™ as a status update. If your meetings are boring, it is because you are not spending your time on IDS® solving real issues.
Re-evaluate how you run the meetings. If the team is merely reporting, you are doing it wrong. Push them to bring their biggest bottlenecks to the table. When they see that the tools actually resolve long-standing headaches and free up their time, their enthusiasm will follow.
You must also address individual accountability. If a leader consistently shows up with empty numbers or uncompleted To-Dos without consequences, you are tolerating mediocrity. Use these steps to re-engage them:
- Ask them directly in your next session how the current meeting structure is failing to help them succeed
- Focus the Scorecard only on the most critical leading indicators so it does not feel like busywork
- Ensure every issue brought to the table is solved completely so they experience the power of traction
If a team member continues to treat the operating system as a bureaucratic burden after these adjustments, you must question if they truly GWC™ their seat.
