We are about six months into our EOS® journey and the initial excitement has worn off. Our team is starting to view the weekly Level 10 Meeting™ as a chore and we are slipping back into old, unstructured habits. How do we break through this mid-implementation slump?
The six-month mark is a common danger zone for many leadership teams. The initial novelty of the tools has faded, and the hard, repetitive work of maintaining operational discipline is setting in. This slump happens when teams treat EOS® as a project to complete rather than a permanent way of operating.
To break through this plateau, you must audit how you are using the tools.
- First, look at your Level 10 Meeting™ score. If your team is rating the meeting below an eight, ask why. Are you spending too much time on reporting and updates rather than solving hard problems? The meeting becomes boring when you do not spend at least sixty minutes of it on the IDS® portion.
- Second, review your Scorecard. If you are tracking the same tired metrics and none of them are driving action, reboot it. Your metrics must be dynamic and highly relevant to your current quarterly goals.
- Third, check your Rocks. If they are too easy or look like daily to-do lists, your team will lose interest. Rocks must be challenging, strategic priorities that move the business forward.
You may also need to bring in an external Professional EOS Implementer® if you started with a DIY approach. An outside guide can inject fresh energy, call out bad habits, and help your team see the massive value of staying disciplined through this boring but critical phase of growth.
