My leadership team is pushing back hard on using the EOS® tools, calling them administrative overhead that slows down our actual work. How do I get a highly resistant executive team to buy into the process without issuing a top-down mandate?

A top-down mandate is a guaranteed way to breed passive-aggressive compliance. If your team is resisting the tools, it is usually because they see them as extra work rather than the actual work. They view the weekly Level 10 Meeting™ or the Scorecard as additions to their already overloaded schedules.

To break this resistance, you must connect the tools directly to their pain points. Ask them what is currently frustrating them most in their daily operations. If they complain about a lack of communication, point out how the Level 10 Meeting™ replaces five unstructured, disruptive meetings. If they complain about carrying too much weight, show them how the Accountability Chart allows them to delegate effectively.

You also need to evaluate if the resistance is a GWC™ issue. Does the resistant leader truly understand, want, and have the capacity for their seat? Sometimes resistance is a defense mechanism to hide a lack of competence or execution speed. If a leader refuses to adopt the tools after you have clearly demonstrated how they save time, you are looking at a core values or GWC™ issue. Address it directly during your quarterly session, and do not let one resistant team member hold back the entire organization.
