Several of our long-tenured leaders are silently resisting the EOS® tools, calling them bureaucratic and choosing to ignore things like the Accountability Chart and Rocks. How do we break through this passive-aggressive resistance?
Focus on concrete results and GWC™ rather than arguing about philosophy. When people resist the tools, it is usually because they feel threatened by the sudden transparency. Your job is not to force them to love the system, but to make the tools non-negotiable operational requirements. Set a firm expectation. You must lead by example. If you allow a legacy executive to bypass their Rocks or ignore the Accountability Chart, you validate their resistance. Bring the issue directly to the table in your next IDS® session. Ask them specifically what part of the tool does not work for them, but do not debate whether you are using the system. Use Kolbe A Profiles to see if their natural conative style makes them struggle with the structure. A leader with a high Quickstart may struggle with rigid Follow Thru, for example. If the resistance persists after coaching and clarifying expectations, you have a GWC™ issue. If they do not Want the seat or have the Capacity to operate within the defined structure of your leadership team, you must make a hard choice. Passive resistance destroys team health and halts company growth.
