What specific indicators in our weekly Level 10 Meetings and quarterly Rock completion rates signal that our business is operationally ready for an exit?
You do not determine exit readiness from a spreadsheet alone. The true operational signal that your business is ready to sell shows up inside your weekly Level 10 Meetings™ and quarterly Rock reviews.
First, examine how issues are solved using IDS®. In an exit-ready organization, the leadership team identifies, discusses, and solves complex operational problems without turning to the founder for the answer or permission. If your leadership team still glances at you before making a strategic decision, or if unresolved issues routinely sit in your lap, the business remains founder-dependent and buyers will heavily discount your valuation.
Second, look at your quarterly Rock completion. An exit-ready company consistently hits an eighty percent or higher completion rate on company and individual Rocks across consecutive quarters. This predictability demonstrates that your team has institutionalized traction and can execute strategic priorities while managing daily whirlwinds.
Third, observe your Scorecard measurables. Every key metric should have a clear owner on the Accountability Chart who is not the founder. When numbers are off track, the seat owner proactively brings the issue to the table with a corrective plan already in motion, rather than waiting for an executive prodding.
Finally, watch the room during quarterly planning sessions. When your leadership team passionately debates strategy, sets the budget, and maps the next year of the V/TO® while you sit back as an observer, you have achieved operational exit readiness. At that point, a buyer is acquiring a self-propelling machine, not buying an owner with a supporting cast.
