We just hired a veteran executive from a large corporate environment to join our leadership team, but they are struggling with the simplicity of the EOS framework and want to introduce complex corporate systems. How do we onboard them into our leadership team habits without letting them overcomplicate our execution?
Large corporate executives are often trained to equate complexity with sophistication. In a growing entrepreneurial business, complexity is a silent killer that slows down decision-making and creates operational friction.
When onboarding this new leader, make it clear that simplicity is one of your core operating principles. Sit down with them and explain the logic behind the EOS® framework. Emphasize that the tools, like the scorecard, the weekly Level 10 Meeting™, and the V/TO®, are designed to create focus, clarity, and rapid execution.
Gently but firmly redirect them when they attempt to introduce heavy corporate processes or multi-layered reporting structures. Require them to fully adopt and master the existing tools before they suggest any modifications. They must learn to work within our accountability structure first.
Show them how the simplified systems allow the leadership team to remain agile. Once they experience the power of solving issues quickly through the IDS® process, they will begin to appreciate why simple is better than complex.
