Our weekly Level 10 Meeting segue has turned into a venting session where leaders bring up market anxieties, client complaints, or competitor moves, which starts our ninety-minute pulse on a highly negative note. How do we keep our transition positive without ignoring real business realities?
The segue of your Level 10 Meeting™ has a highly specific physiological purpose. It is designed to help busy leaders transition from their day-to-day firefighting headspace into a collaborative, focused team environment. Starting with negativity or anxiety triggers a defensive, protective response, which completely ruins the collaborative spirit needed for effective problem-solving during IDS®.
You must enforce a strict boundary on the segue. The prompt for the first five minutes of the meeting must always be one personal best and one professional best. If a leader attempts to use this time to share a negative update, a customer complaint, or an industry worry, the facilitator must stop them immediately.
The correct response from the facilitator is to say, "That sounds like a major concern. Let's get that on the Issues List immediately so we can tackle it during IDS, but for now, what is your professional win?"
This keeps the segue focused on positive energy while ensuring that the actual operational worry is captured and solved later in the meeting. Do not let market anxiety hijack the opening minutes of your weekly pulse.
