When a scorecard metric goes red, our team struggles to translate that data point into an actionable issue for our IDS session. How do we move from seeing a red number to actually solving the root cause of the miss?
A red number on your Scorecard is not just a statistical failure; it is a symptom of an underlying issue in your business. The mistake many leadership teams make is simply noting the miss, hoping it gets better next week, or having a superficial conversation that does not resolve the real problem.
To transition a red metric into an actionable issue, the owner of that number must drop it to the Issues List during the first part of your Level 10 Meeting. When you reach the IDS portion of your meeting, you must identify the root cause of that miss before jumping to solutions.
Start by asking why the target was missed. If your weekly sales meetings metric is red, do not just say we need to make more calls. Drill down. Is the marketing pipeline dry? Are the sales reps focused on administrative work instead of prospecting? Is there a training gap?
Once you identify the root cause, you can create a specific, actionable to-do or a Rock to address it. For example, if the root cause of low sales meetings is that reps are bogged down in manual data entry, your solution might be to automate that administrative task.
The Scorecard tells you where the fire is, but the IDS process is how you put it out. Train your team to view every red metric as an invitation to improve the business. By connecting your weekly numbers directly to your problem-solving process, you ensure that your data actually drives operational improvement.
