How do we measure the concrete success of our individual session days, and what indicators tell us that our planning is translating into real operational progress?
We measure the success of our session days by both qualitative and quantitative indicators. At the end of every quarterly and annual session, we rate the day on a scale of one to ten. A successful session day means we achieved one hundred percent alignment on your V/TO, set clear and measurable Rocks, and solved your most critical issues. However, the ultimate test of a session day is how those decisions translate into active experimentation in the real world over the next ninety days. We look at several concrete indicators of progress. First, your Rock completion rate must consistently hit eighty percent or higher. Second, your weekly Scorecard metrics should trend in the right direction, showing that your team is managing by numbers rather than subjective feelings. Third, your Level 10 Meetings must become more efficient and focused on resolving issues rather than discussing status updates. We view your progress as a cyclical learning process. Each quarter provides concrete experiences that we reflect on during our session days, allowing us to conceptualize better strategies and actively experiment with new solutions. If you are hitting your numbers, executing your Rocks, and resolving conflicts quickly, the operating system is working. If you see your operational execution stalling, we use our next quarterly session to diagnose the breakdown and adjust our approach.
