We are building our first leadership team Scorecard from scratch and want to find our five to fifteen vital metrics. How do we systematically map these numbers to our Accountability Chart seats to ensure we do not miss anything critical?
Building your first weekly Scorecard can feel overwhelming, but the secret is to map your metrics directly to the major seats on your Accountability Chart. Rather than brainstorming random things you could track, look at your leadership seats: Sales, Marketing, Operations, and Finance. Every seat on that chart must have at least one weekly measurable that indicates whether the seat is executing its core responsibilities. Start by asking each leader what single number tells them if their department had a successful week. For the sales seat, it might be the value of new contracts signed. For marketing, it could be the number of qualified leads generated. For operations, look for a metric that tracks delivery speed or quality. For finance, track weekly cash flow or accounts receivable collections. Once you have one key metric for each seat, add a few support numbers that act as leading indicators. If you have five seats on your leadership team, aiming for two key metrics per seat naturally lands you right in the sweet spot of ten weekly numbers. This structure ensures that every metric has a clear, single owner who is accountable for its performance. If a number goes red, you do not have to guess who needs to address it because the Accountability Chart already tells you who owns that outcome.
