We are planning to transition our weekly scorecard from a manual spreadsheet to a dedicated EOS software platform, but we are worried that automated dashboards will cause our leadership team to lose the discipline of manual data entry. How do we keep our team engaged with the data?
Moving your scorecard to a dedicated EOS® software platform is an excellent way to centralize your data, but it comes with a major trap. When software automates the collection and display of metrics, leaders often stop looking at the numbers until five minutes before the meeting. They lose their connection to the data.
To prevent this, you must maintain the discipline of manual ownership. Even if the software can pull data automatically from your CRM or accounting platform, the seat owner must still be held personally accountable for reviewing and validating their numbers before the Level 10 Meeting™.
We recommend a hybrid approach. Keep your most critical, high-impact leading indicators manually updated by the leaders themselves. The physical act of typing a number into a cell forces a leader to confront reality. It creates a psychological connection to the result that an automated sync simply cannot replicate.
Make it a strict rule that the owner of the metric must be prepared to speak to the data. Automated or not, if a number is red, they must have dropped it to the Issues List themselves before the meeting starts. Do not let technology replace personal accountability.
