Our Visionary is highly creative but frequently dominates the discussion, cutting off other leaders and dragging us off-agenda during the IDS® portion. How does the Integrator assertively facilitate without creating friction with the founder?
The relationship between the Visionary and the Integrator is the engine of an EOS® company. However, when a creative, high-energy Visionary dominates the weekly meeting, they disrupt the structural cadence and hijack the team's operational focus.
The Integrator, as the designated facilitator of the Level 10 Meeting™, must run the room with quiet, confident authority. To manage a dominant Visionary, the Integrator must establish clear guardrails before the meeting starts. Both parties must agree to abide by the rules of the meeting pulse.
During the meeting, the Integrator must use active facilitation techniques. When the Visionary goes off-topic or starts telling stories, the Integrator must politely but firmly intervene. Use phrases like: that is a great strategic point, let us add it to the long-term issues list so we can stay focused on today's tactical priorities.
If the behavior continues, it must be addressed outside the meeting in a Same Page meeting. The Integrator must explain how the dominance is shutting down the rest of the leadership team and preventing them from taking ownership of their seats. Remind the Visionary that stepping back actually empowers the team to solve issues independently, freeing the founder to operate in their own zone of genius.
