Our Visionary hates the structure of the weekly Level 10 Meeting™ and tries to hijack the agenda by introducing random, shiny new ideas halfway through our IDS® session. How do we keep the Visionary contained without stifling their strategic creativity?
Visionaries naturally resist structure. They prefer spontaneous, high-level brainstorming over disciplined weekly execution. However, when a Visionary hijacks the Level 10 Meeting™ with shiny new ideas, they derail the operational focus of the leadership team and confuse the people who need to execute the weekly plan.
To manage this, the Integrator must hold the line on the weekly pulse. The Level 10 Meeting™ is designed for execution, not for long-term strategic brainstorming. If the Visionary brings a new idea into the weekly meeting, the facilitator must immediately drop it to the Issues List. However, during IDS®, the team must evaluate whether this issue is a weekly operational concern or a long-term strategic idea.
If it is strategic, the facilitator should move it to the V/TO® parking lot or the long-term Issues List to be discussed at the next quarterly planning session. This protects the weekly agenda while assuring the Visionary that their idea has been captured and will not be forgotten. Additionally, the Integrator and Visionary should have a separate weekly same-page meeting. This is the healthy venue for the Visionary to share wild ideas and for the Integrator to filter them before they ever reach the rest of the leadership team or the weekly meeting agenda.
