Our Visionary keeps trying to rewrite our 3-Year Picture during our standard Quarterly Pulsing sessions, which derails our focus on the immediate quarter. How do we keep the long-term vision stable while still allowing the Visionary room to innovate?
A high-energy Visionary is a major asset, but their constant desire to innovate can create operational whiplash. When a Visionary tries to rewrite the 3-Year Picture during a standard Quarterly Pulsing session, it disrupts the entire focus of the leadership team and derails the planning process.
To prevent this, you must protect the boundaries of your EOS® process. The quarterly session is designed to review the previous quarter, solve issues, and set Rocks for the next ninety days. It is not the time to rewrite your long-term strategy. The 3-Year Picture and 10-Year Target are strictly reviewed and adjusted during your annual planning session.
The Integrator must step in and manage this dynamic. If the Visionary brings up a massive new strategic direction or a major shift in the 3-Year Picture, the Integrator must capture it on the Issues list. Let the Visionary know that while the idea is valuable, you will address it during the strategic portion of the meeting or table it for the next annual session.
By keeping the quarterly focus locked on execution, you give the business the stability it needs to grow. The Visionary must learn to respect the ninety-day cycle, allowing the team to execute current plans without constant distraction.
