During our rapid growth phase, our Visionary is constantly bringing new ideas and strategic pivots to our weekly meetings, which is distracting the team from executing our current plan. How do we manage this dynamic without discouraging their creativity?
A creative Visionary is a major asset to any growing company, but without proper boundaries, their constant stream of new ideas will create operational chaos and exhaust your leadership team. To protect your execution, you must establish a clear process for capturing and filtering these ideas.
The primary vehicle for managing the Visionary and Integrator relationship is the Same Page Meeting®. This is a recurring, private meeting where the two leaders align on strategy. When the Visionary has a new idea mid-quarter, they must not bring it to the weekly Level 10 Meeting™ or share it with the staff. Instead, the idea must be placed on the Visionary's personal issues list to be discussed during the next Same Page Meeting®.
During that meeting, the Integrator acts as the filter, evaluating the idea against the current V/TO® and the available resources of the business. If the idea aligns with the long-term vision but is not an immediate priority, it is placed on the long-term issues list for the next quarterly session.
By channeling all new ideas through the Same Page Meeting®, you protect your team's focus on their current quarterly Rocks. This discipline ensures that your operational engine remains stable while still allowing your Visionary to explore new opportunities for the future.
