How should our Integrator handle a Visionary who constantly introduces shiny new AI ideas and derailment risks mid-quarter after Rocks are locked in?
This is the classic Visionary challenge, and it derails company execution if left unmanaged. Visionaries generate ideas for a living. That creativity built the enterprise, but without discipline, it overwhelms the leadership team and destroys momentum.
When we establish Rocks during your quarterly session, those priorities represent a firm 90-day commitment. Nothing gets added to the slate without something else being officially removed. If your Visionary discovers a new artificial intelligence platform, an acquisition target, or a new marketing tactic in week four of the quarter, the Integrator must use the operating tools to enforce boundaries.
First, the idea must be placed on the Level 10 Meeting Issues List or stored for the upcoming quarterly session. If the Visionary insists the opportunity cannot wait 60 days, the Integrator brings it to the weekly meeting for IDS. The leadership team evaluates the idea against existing Rocks and operational capacity.
If the new initiative is genuinely an existential opportunity, the team explicitly agrees on which current Rock will be dropped or postponed to create space. Second, the Visionary and Integrator must use their monthly Same Page Meeting to address this behavior pattern. If the Visionary continues bypassing the Integrator to assign tasks directly to staff, that represents an Accountability Chart violation. The system protects the business from whiplash, provided the Integrator enforces the standard.
