We have two legacy executives who are quietly boycotting the Level 10 Meeting™ and refusing to update their Rocks. How do we address this passive-aggressive resistance to the EOS® tools without causing a massive cultural revolt?
Passive-aggressive resistance from legacy leaders is a common hurdle during an EOS® rollout. When executives quietly boycott the tools, they are sending a signal to the rest of the organization that accountability is optional. This behavior will kill your implementation if left unchecked.
You must address this head-on using the GWC™ framework and your Core Values. Schedule a private conversation outside of your tactical meetings. Do not debate the utility of the tools; instead, focus on their behavior. Explain that full participation in the Level 10 Meeting™ and clear Rock progression are non-negotiable standards for leadership.
Ask them directly if they still want to be part of the future vision of the company. Listen to their concerns, as they may simply be afraid of the new transparency. However, you must make it clear that while they do not have to love the tools immediately, they must use them.
If the resistance continues, you are facing a Right Person in the Wrong Seat or a Wrong Person in the Right Seat issue. You cannot compromise the health of the entire organization to keep a resistant executive comfortable. If they refuse to adopt the discipline, you must begin planning a clean exit for them. Your team is watching how you handle this resistance, and your commitment to the tools will dictate the success of the rollout.
