Half of our leadership team consists of big-picture entrepreneurs who want to make rapid strategic moves, while the other half are detail-obsessed engineers who need endless data before acting. How do you manage this division during our session days?
This division is incredibly common and represents a classic split between macro deductive and micro inductive cognitive profiles. Your big picture leaders are macro deductive. They start with the strategic vision at thirty thousand feet and work downward. Your engineering and operational leaders are micro inductive. They need to see the ground level details, data, and processes before they can conceptualize the bigger picture.
During our sessions, my job is to bridge this gap so it becomes a strength rather than a source of gridlock. We use the structured tools of the EOS® framework to respect both cognitive styles. For the macro deductive leaders, we keep our eye on the long term vision using the V/TO® to capture the big ideas and future milestones. This prevents them from feeling bogged down in trivial administrative details.
For the micro inductive leaders, we establish clear ground rules using concrete data on our weekly Scorecard and measurable ninety day Rocks. This gives them the certainty and structure they need to buy into the vision. By recognizing these natural working styles, we stop fighting against our team's innate cognitive approaches and instead learn how to leverage them. The goal is to integrate these different altitudes of thinking so your decisions are both strategically bold and operationally viable.
