As we scale our operations, our leadership team is struggling to keep the weekly Level 10 Meeting™ to exactly ninety minutes because our business model has become highly complex. Do we need to split the meeting by division, or is there a way to streamline our focus?
Scaling a business often brings complexity, but extending your weekly meeting past ninety minutes or splitting it prematurely will only lead to misalignment and communication silos. The ninety minute timebox is a healthy constraint. It forces your leadership team to prioritize what truly matters rather than discussing every operational detail.
If you are running out of time, your Issues List is likely bloated with departmental problems that should be solved at a lower level. Your leadership team must only solve issues that affect the entire organization, impact your corporate Rocks, or cross departmental boundaries.
First, audit your Issues List. If an issue can be solved by two leaders outside of the meeting, delete it from the agenda and tell them to meet separately. This is a simple hygiene check that immediately clears the clutter.
Second, ensure you have clearly defined seats on your Accountability Chart. If your department heads are fully GWC, they should be running their own departmental Level 10 Meetings to solve their specific operational issues.
By cascading the meeting pulse down to your departments, you free up the leadership team to focus strictly on high level strategic obstacles. This keeps your weekly meeting tight, focused, and strictly within the ninety minute limit, regardless of how complex your business grows.
