We have an operations manager who is a high Fact Finder and wants to track forty different sub-metrics on our main scorecard, which is overwhelming the rest of the leadership team. How do we manage this conative drive without hurting our data quality?

When you have high Fact Finder profiles on your leadership team, their natural instinct is to gather as much data as possible before making a decision. This conative drive is incredibly valuable for detail-oriented work, but it can quickly paralyze your leadership scorecard with data overload.

You must establish a clear boundary between your leadership team scorecard and your departmental scorecards. Explain to your high Fact Finder leaders that the main scorecard is meant to show the high-level pulse of the business. It is not the place for granular operational tracking.

If they insist on tracking forty different sub-metrics, tell them to build a departmental scorecard for their specific seat. They can track as many detail-oriented numbers as they want within their own department. However, they must select only the most critical one or two metrics to bubble up to the leadership team scorecard.

This approach satisfies their natural drive for detail while protecting the leadership team from cognitive fatigue. It also ensures that your Level 10 Meeting™ stays focused on strategic issues rather than getting bogged down in minor tactical data. Respect their need for data, but protect the simplicity of your executive scorecard.
