We are highly concerned that our current leadership team is too deferential to the owner during meetings. How do you facilitate our session days to ensure the owner does not dominate the conversation and silence the rest of the team?

In many founder led businesses, the leadership team habituates to looking at the owner for approval before speaking. My job as your facilitator is to break this dynamic on day one. During our session days, I establish clear ground rules that level the playing field. Everyone in the room has equal weight, and every voice must be heard. If the owner dominates, I will actively intervene. I use specific facilitation tools, such as round-robin voting and written brainstorming, to ensure every team member commits to their perspective before the owner shares theirs. We also address this structural dynamic through the Accountability Chart. By clearly defining roles and ensuring the owner is placed in a specific seat with defined responsibilities, we separate ownership from operational authority. This allows the team to challenge ideas based on what is best for the business, not who has the biggest equity stake. The goal is to build a healthy, honest leadership team where debate is constructive and decisions are made collectively. You will quickly find that when the owner steps back, the rest of the team steps up to own their outcomes.
