We have a highly opinionated leadership team member who constantly dominates the IDS® portion of our Level 10 Meeting™, cutting others off and dictating the solutions. How does the facilitator neutralize this dominant behavior to ensure every voice on the team is heard?

A dominant team member who hijacks the IDS® portion of your Level 10 Meeting™ destroys team trust and prevents healthy problem-solving. To neutralize this behavior, the facilitator must actively manage the room and enforce the rules of healthy conflict.

During the Identify phase, ensure the dominant individual does not speak first. Intentionally call on quieter team members to share their perspectives on the issue. This balances the input and ensures multiple viewpoints are on the table.

If the dominant leader cuts someone off, the facilitator must intervene immediately with direct, objective feedback. Use a neutral tone and say:

- Let us allow them to finish their thought before we open it up for feedback.

If the behavior persists, the Integrator must take the issue offline. Schedule a one-on-one session to address the behavior using the GWC™ framework. Explain how their dominant style is shutting down team engagement and preventing the team from reaching the best solutions.

Remind them that in the Owner's Box, leadership requires being humbly-confident. True leaders lift up their peers rather than dominating them, creating a healthy environment where the best ideas win.
